Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) Leveling Guide
Finding yourself lagging behind others while leveling up in Elder Scrolls Online? Unfortunately, the leveling process in ESO can be painfully slow, especially if you’re just running off completing random quests, exploring zones here and there, and killing a few mobs along the way.
Without a true plan of action you’re bound to spend a lot of unnecessary time working your way up to level 50, let alone the veteran ranks that come after that. So how can you correct this? By becoming more focused and using a step-by-step Elder Scrolls Online leveling guide.
I know, I know… so many leveling and strategy guides for MMOs out there are absolute garbage. Trust me, I’ve been there myself. 90% of the so-called “guides” you find online are pure trash. They’re mostly filled with generic tips & strategies that are useless even to a casual player.
Luckily, there are guides available for ESO that have broken this endless cycle of publishing recycled junk tactics. Below I’ve provided a list and a short review of the best Elder Scrolls Online guides available.
The Elder Scrolls Online Guide
TESO Guide is a comprehensive and extremely thorough game guide. It is the one that I personally found the most useful and the one I recommend above all others.
This thing is PACKED with great information including fast leveling strategies for all classes & all alliance zones, an incredible guide to making massive amounts of gold quickly, tips & tricks for making insanely powerful builds, a complete guide to ESO PvP, and much more.
Here’s everything that’s included with the Sovereign Guide:
- 1-50 Fast Leveling Guide for Every Class & Faction
- Gold Farming Guide
- List of EVERY Skyshard Location
- Complete Guide to PvP
- Builds for PvE, Dungeons, and PvP
- Loads More
Using the leveling strategies provided in the TESO guide I was able to take my first character (a Khajiit Nightblade) from level 9 to 50 in just 2 days. Now, I’m a bit of a dedicated player, but the way they show you how to level you can easily hit 50 with any class in matter of 4-5 days even if you’re just a casual player. It’s actually really fast.
I was also able to rack up a ton of gold using the tips provided in this book. This made it so that I was not only able to purchase a pretty good mount (I went with a Draft Horse for the extra storage capacity) and get a full set of high-level gear for my Nightblade, too. And I still have well over 60,000 gold left to spend.
Point is… if you want to get your character to level 50 fast, earn more gold than you’ll ever need, and learn how to construct builds that work extremely well in PvE and PvP… the ESO Sovereign Guide is the best source of information for all of this. I highly recommend everyone get a copy of this guide.

ESO Mastery Guides
ESO Mastery Guides is another set of guides for Elder Scrolls Online. This one comes with a few good leveling strategies and gold making tips but it also comes with access to a forum where a bunch of experienced players provide additional game secrets and assistance.
This one isn’t as in-depth or comprehensive as the TESO Guide but it still has some good information in it. The main thing I didn’t like about it was that they essentially try to sell you access to the forum. I mean, forums are great and all, but, in my opinion, you shouldn’t focus an entire guide around a forum.
Don’t get me wrong, ESOmasteryguides.com does provide some written guides for leveling, gold making, crafting, and so on, but they aren’t very detailed. They’re helpful but they don’t provide you with a clear, step-by-step plan like the TESO Guide does and this makes leveling and such a bit slower because it’s not as easy to follow along.
In other words, this one is really meant to just be an alternative if you didn’t like how the TESO guide looked or something. The other let down with this one is that you don’t get access to all the class leveling guides. They are sold individually for nearly $40 each. You can get all 4 for like $60 but that’s kind of a rip when the Sovereign Guide gives you everything for much less.
KillerGuides’ ESO Leveling Guides
KillerGuides is a rather well-known company that makes leveling guides for pretty much every big-name MMO out there (including WoW, SWTOR, TERA, Guild Wars 2, and more). I was pleasantly surprised to find out that their ESO leveling guides were actually pretty detailed and useful.
You have to purchase a guide for each class. And each class guide costs about $30 a pop. They do have an option where you can get a copy of each class guide plus a gold making guide and a pre-order for their upcoming guide to crafting in ESO but this package costs an insane amount at $89.99.
Wayyyyyy too pricey for my tastes. Especially, as I said before, when there are ones available like the TESO Guide that give you ALL of that for a fraction of that cost. Don’t get me wrong, the KG guides are great, but they just aren’t worth the money. If they brought the package down to 1/2 price or so it’d totally be worth getting, but not for $90. That’s ridiculous.

I’ve personally purchased and used about 10 different ones since the launch of the game. The TESO Guide is by far the absolute best one that will actually help you speed up your leveling immensely and learn other useful stuff like how to earn gold fast, how to make proper builds for PvE, dungeons, and PvP, and more.
About Leveling in ESO
The Elder Scrolls Online was recently released and many players are now working their way through the game, progressing their characters, earning gold, and learning the ins & outs of this brand new MMO. While ESO does bring a few interesting new elements to the MMO universe it is still mostly familiar to MMO vets.
There are several different ways that players can earn experience that goes toward leveling up their character in Elder Scrolls Online. Most of these are standard methods found in nearly any MMO. These include:
- Completing Quests
- Killing Enemies
There are a few other things that will help contribute to your player’s XP, though. Below we’ve provided a ESO leveling guide for new players that wish to reach level 50 or the level cap of level 50, veteran rank 10 as quickly as possible.
Elder Scrolls Online Leveling Guide
In order to level up fast you’ll need to complete a variety of tasks. Grinding out levels using just one method is not only inefficient but it can prove to be insanely boring. It’s always best to mix it up. Below we’ve provided several general leveling methods that you can try out. We’ll be posting leveling guides for each of the 3 alliances later on.
One of the best ways to earn a lot of experience and even rack up some gold is to complete quests. There are TONS of quests available in every zone. New quests that you have yet to discover are designated by black arrows on your map. Simply speak to the NPC or examine the object that the arrow is on to begin the quest. All quests are logged in your Journal so you’ll always know what you need to do for them.
Quests are pretty easy to do and very straightforward. Simply follow the arrows associated with the quest you want to complete. You can swap between active quests by simply hitting ‘T’ (on PC; console controls will be added later). Once you complete a quest you’ll be rewarded with XP, gold, and, potentially, new items.
Learn how to power through levels all the way to veteran rank 10, earn massive amounts of gold, get the best gear for your character, and more by checking out this awesome Elder Scrolls Online guide – it’s guaranteed to speed up leveling and help you improve your characters FAST.
This is a standard in every MMO on the market today. You can earn experience that will help you level up by simply exploring outside big cities and killing enemy creatures that you come across. You’ll gain more XP by killing enemies that are higher in level than your character. As a rule of thumb you should almost always be killing creatures and foes that are 1 to 2 levels above your own.
Explore different zones and kill a variety of enemy types to keep things interesting and effective. Enemies also drop loot which can be used to sell off to a merchant. While traveling through these zones you’ll also come across new quests and other things you can do.
Weapon & Attack Skills
While killing enemies you’ll probably realize that you’re gaining experience in specific skill sets. Whether you’re using blunt weapons, a bow, or eliminating foes with magic you’ll be earning XP in some skill tree. When you level up these skills you’re also gaining general experience for your character’s overall level.
NOTE: The weapons you’ll be leveling will probably depend on what class you chose to play as (Dragonknight, Nightblade, Templar, or Sorcerer) but the concept is the same throughout. Use weapons to get kills and you’ll progress their respective skill lines.
Gathering & Crafting
Another method of leveling is to go around and gather all the resources you can and also use those resources in crafting. You’ll progress both your gathering and crafting skills this way which also contribute to your general player level. Crafting is a decent source of XP so long as you have a good amount of materials on hand to craft items with. One of the easiest professions to do is Blacksmithing because of the abundance of resources such as Iron Ore.
Explore different zones and collect various resources and then take them to crafting stations to make armor, weapons, potions, and other useful items. This will not only allow you earn a good amount of experience but will also help you create better gear for your player, whip up useful potions, and even make items that you can sell to merchants or other players for gold.
