In the past week Tesco (a UK retailer) threw up a product page for a new game titled Call of Duty: Ghosts along with some box art of the game itself. The box art has since been removed and the info slightly altered but the page is still there as a placeholder by the look of it. This had most major gaming news sources publishing ‘rumor’ articles left and right. Supposedly the page is a sign of leaked info that Ghosts is, indeed, the next CoD title coming out this year.
A few other sources claim to have managed to grab a peek at the product description before it was abruptly removed. According to these sources (which in our opinion are quite reliable) the description claims that Ghosts was created on a completely new game engine, will include a whole new set of characters, and will have a new story-line that isn’t similar to either the Black Ops or Modern Warfare series.
Keep in mind that NONE of this information is confirmed. Although some sources are speculating that Activision will be officially announcing the game along with its release date on May 1st. But if the info is correct, this means a whole new era of CoD is upon us. A new engine should (in theory) mean better graphics and, possibly, new abilities or environmental aspects.
Ghosts is, however, listed as being available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles meaning that the ‘new engine’ will still have limits set by the hardware of these platforms. Both gamers and media big-wigs do, however, believe that another new Call of Duty game will be revealed on or not long after the May 21st reveal of the new Xbox console.
We’ll keep you updated as more details come in.
