Battlefield Giving Away BF 1942 for 10th Anniversary

DICE, the company behind the popular Battlefield series, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the game business by giving out a freebie to PC players. Right now you can download Battlefield 1942 for absolutely no charge through Origin. This game has been set to be free-to-play due to the 10th anniversary of the series as well as DICE hitting the 2 millionth premium subscriber milestone.

Battlefield 1942 was released back in 2002 and quickly became one of the most popular WWII games on the market. Even today the game is still played often by players. The sequel, Battlefield 1943, still has a solid player base on gaming consoles such as the Xbox 360. Even 10 years after release the game is still a fan favorite.

Battlefield 1942

Wondering if your PC can handle BF 1942? Don’t sweat it too much. The system requirements are incredibly low. But that is to be expected of a game that is a whole decade old now. Here’s what is required for Windows users:

  • 500 MHz or better CPU
  • 128 MB of RAM or better
  • 32MB 3D video card
  • 1.6GB of HD space
  • DirectX 9

For Apple users these are the requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2.8 or better
  • 700 MHz or faster G3, G4, G5 or better
  • 256MB of RAM
  • 1.6GB of HD space
  • 32MB 3D video card

It’s quite interesting to see just how low powered computers were just 10 years ago. Even most smartphones these days have better specs than those listed above. So there’s no reason to worry about performance once you download and start playing Battlefield 1942. Just about any computer from the past 5-8 years can easily handle this game.

So go fire up your Origin client and go download Battlefield 1942 for free today. We’re not entirely sure if this is going to be a permanent change or just a temporary free giveaway so you might wanna grab the game for the gorgeous $0 that it is right now while it’s still available.
